A few weeks ago, Tom Asta hopped on YouTube and spilled the story behind his departure from éS.
Riding the same shoe brand for 10 years has its ups and downs, sure, but Tom is rightfully out there testing the treacherous waters of the skateboarding shoe world and shared a little update with his followers recently. Any guesses? Ahhhh, you already know. Take a look:
"After losing my footwear sponsor of 10 years I'm trying out some new skate shoes," he wrote on YouTube. And whether you've been curious or not, well, this is YouTube. It's like reality TV on the internet, right? Right.
If you haven’t watched Tom’s viral video yet, check it out below—I promise it’ll all make way more sense once you do. But hey, no pressure if you don’t. Regardless, the clip gives us a pretty interesting, low key behind-the-scenes glimpse into what life is like for some of today’s pros.
While there are plenty of footwear options for skateboarders out there these days, it's sort of a different story when it comes to our favorite pros without shoe sponsors. Like Tom, they can all test the waters, but that obviously doesn't mean anything will come of it. It's tricky. It's also just simply how it is!
Regardless, the giants will remain giants. And core skate shoe companies will always remain core skate shoe companies. That's sort of the point, right? I don't know, but it keeps things interesting, that's for sure!
Maybe Tom will try out a few other brands? Maybe Asics will send him a box? Or perhaps he'll just keep tearing through his back stock of éS—we all know he has a ton. The world keeps spinning either way.
Okay, enough from me. Go skate!
