Keegan Palmer first stepped foot on a skateboard when he was three. What were you doing when you were three? If you were to ask me, I'd confidently tell you I have no idea, but I certainly wasn't skateboarding.
Growing up in Australia, Keegan had an impressive drive for skateboarding early on, spending the first decade-plus of his life at the skatepark with his dad, developing his skills and getting comfortable on the wild wooden toy we all love. And if you're familiar with his skating these days—it shows.
Rockstar recently caught up with Keegan in their latest In Depth episode to get to know the Aussie powerhouse on a deeper level. On and off the board, Keegan's focus is something to admire. Dive in:
These days, Keegan is 22 and resides in San Diego, and if you happen to live in or around the area, chances are you've seen him ripping around some of our local parks—despite his busy travel schedule. Between skate trips, countless contests and simply trying to just be a young adult (surfing, hanging with friends at the beach, etc.), it's actually pretty impressive to see how this hungry up-and-comer balances it all.
Hearing about the gnarly schedule he was on as a kid, and more importantly, hearing him reflect on it all was pretty interesting. Again, his talent is undeniable, but it clearly came with a price. It's ironic, almost—most kids dream of being in a situation like that. But when you really peel back the curtain, maybe it isn't exactly what it seems.
Regardless, it undoubtedly got Keegan to where he is today, and things seem to be moving at a much more manageable pace for this legend-in-the-making. I'm not gonna spoil too much more, though. If you haven't already, tap that play button and learn a little more about this humble ripper. Yeah, Keegan!
