Skateboarding icon, Brian Lotti recently sat down with The Nine Club, and provided us with an episode packed with the kind of skate history many of you probably don’t hear every day.
He digs into his early days of filming with H-Street and Planet Earth, breaking down what it was like to be part of two massively influential video eras. He talks about being completely star-struck the first time he met John Lucero (especially after spotting Lucero’s legendary “X-Team Rider” board) and how it was one of those moments that sticks with you forever.
And I'm obviously just barely scratching the surface. You know how it works! Settle in for some story time.
Amongst all the stories, I was pretty locked in when he shed some light on The Program Skateboards (who remembers?), explaining what the vision was—and unfortunately, why it ultimately never happened. He talks leaving Planet Earth for Blind. Filming Virtual Reality. The ultimate cherry on top? He gets into the origin story behind one of skateboarding’s most iconic tricks: the Backside Big Spin. Absolute skate nerd stuff.
What else can I say? On and off the board, Lotti is an absolute legend. He closes the episode by talking about his ongoing work as an artist and how creativity has driven every stage of his life. Hard to argue, right?
To say the least—it’s a heavy conversation with one of skateboarding’s true originals. But as always, I ain't here to spoil it all! Dive in and get stoked.
Skaters like Brian Lotti have stories for days, and for good reason. He's been around the block a few times, that's for sure. And his legacy will live on forever. Great episode. Get there!
