Aleksander Aamodt Kilde Shares Update: “100 Days to the Downhill in Beaver Creek”

Norwegian alpine ski racer Aleksander Aamodt Kilde is back on snow in Chile, and is counting down the days before he’ll hopefully compete at an upcoming World Cup downhill more than a year after an injury that left him on the sidelines.

“It’s amazing to be here,” he said in a social media video. “Feeling this close to the sport—it’s been a minute.” While Kilde’s there to hone his skills and train, his timing aligned with a recent South American snowstorm. He shared clips of himself and his teammates enjoying the fresh powder.

Kilde also noted that the World Cup downhill event at Beaver Creek, Colorado, on December 5, 2025, is only 100 days away. “I was thinking about that being one of the biggest goals I have coming up,” he said.

The Beaver Creek competition could mark Kilde’s first World Cup race since January 2024 when suffered a traumatic crash in Wengen, Switzerland.

He previously told the Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang that while he won't be ready to race for the World Cup opener in Sölden, Austria, on October 26th, he has his eyes set on the Beaver Creek downhill.

At first, Kilde's fall in Switzerland in 2024 didn't appear to be a major setback. By June of that year, he returned to snow to continue training.

But one month later, he developed a shoulder infection that led to sepsis, and after ten weeks of antibiotics, he required another surgery. That left Kilde unable to compete for the entire 2024-2025 race season as four months of rehab loomed.

Since then, Kilde has posted encouraging updates. Just a few weeks ago, he shared on Instagram that he was “Back on the slopes.” Now, he’s in South America, prepping for an Olympic year where the stakes on the World Cup course will be higher-than-usual.

Kilde, 32, is no stranger to the World Cup or Olympic podium. He earned two Olympic medals in 2022—a bronze and a silver—and during the 2022-2023 race season, won eight of the World Cup races he entered.

Kilde's fiancée and fellow Olympian, Mikaela Shiffrin, has dealt with injuries, too.

In Killington, Vermont, in 2024, a bad crash kept her off the race course for two months. But she finished the season on the podium with a first-place finish in slalom at the Sun Valley, Idaho, World Cup finals.

The Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics kick off in February 2026.
