Yesterday afternoon, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, British Columbia's maintenance team discovered an electrical problem on The Stairway to Heaven Chairlift but could not resolve the issue.
The chairlift remains closed today as the team continues to work towards a solution.
As The Stairway to Heaven lift accesses a significant portion of Kicking Horse's upper mountain terrain, the resort is offering reduced-rate lift tickets today while they attempt to address the electrical issue.
"You will still be able to access Feuz Bowl, Whitewall, and open terrain beyond by hiking up Cloud Nine if you choose," Kicking Horse wrote on Instagram, explaining that much of the lift's terrain network remains open, albeit requiring a little more elbow grease than usual.
Kicking Horse, which is known as a resort with a backcountry vibe—many of its runs require hiking—recently saw significant snowfall, giving it a much-needed boost during what's been a challenging season.
Springy conditions are now headed to the resort, with temperatures above freezing likely this weekend.
The resort plans to offer updates about The Stairway to Heaven closure as they come.
