The month of May typically brings the first helping of Spring for mountain towns across the American Intermountain West, but winter can always rear her (beautiful) head.

The town of Aspen, Colorado is waking up to more than six inches of fresh snowfall blanketing the surrounding peaks this morning, May 24th, 2024. Check out the photos from Aspen Snowmass' various webcams below!

Snow didn't quite reach the valley floor, but as you can see in the photos above, there's quite a decent amount of snow up high, especially for the end of May.

Aspen Mountain, formerly known as Ajax Mountain, closed back on April 21st, 2024 and was the last of Aspen Snowmass' four resorts to close. Skiers haven't been riding lifts at Aspen for over a month.

The resort has turned their focus to summer hiking, mountain biking, and other outdoor activities, but the recent snowfall shouldn't throw a wrench in plans for too long.

Temperatures are expected to climb near 60 degrees today in town, and with a high sun angle, the snow is likely to melt before the day is done.

No matter, a random late-May storm isn't expected to provide ample skiing conditions. Instead, Aspen locals will surely enjoy staring at the white-covered peaks as they sip their over-priced coffees this morning.

Enjoy those last flakes while you can!
