A 34-year-old woman, skier, and Lake Louise resident died on Tuesday morning after falling in the backcountry of Banff National Park, Alberta, near Moraine Lake, according to police and local news reports.

The Rocky Mountain Outlook reports that, according to Parks Canada officials, three skiers began descending ¾ Couloir at around 7 a.m. One member of the group fell almost 2,000 feet, an official said in a statement, according to the Rocky Mountain Outlook.

According to the Royal Canadian Mountain Police (RCMP), Parks Canada received a report of the incident around 7 a.m.

The skier, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was extracted via a long line from Alpine Helicopters, the RCMP said. STARS also participated in the response.

A representative from the RCMP confirmed that the police didn’t have further information about the incident to share.
