Zog’s, a beloved restaurant in Whistler, British Columbia, won’t open this coming ski season.
The eatery, which has served skiers for almost three decades, sold classic Canadian ski town fare, like hot dogs, poutine, and burgers, at reasonable prices. It was a short walk away from the base of the Excalibur Gondola, the Whistler Village Gondola, and the Fitzsimmons Express, three lifts where skiers often start their days at Whistler Blackcomb.
In a statement shared with Pique, Zog’s owner, Diana Chan, said, “We received unexpected notice that our lease will not be renewed. This decision was beyond our control, and despite our efforts, we were unable to secure a new lease heading into this winter.”
“We are profoundly grateful for the loyalty, friendship, and support we have received over the years. We’re proud of the memories we’ve made together—bridging seasons and generations—and we will carry them with us always. It has been our absolute privilege to be part of this community,” Chan added.

Chan later told Pique that the owners of Zog’s property actually wanted the business to stay, but planned to increase rent by 25%. A representative for Concord Leasing disputed that claim, saying the lease is on base revenue and rent was only slated to increase from 10% to 12%, calling it a “sweetheart deal.”
On social media, Zog’s fans offered their condolences to the lost restaurant.
“Naaaaah, one of the most legendary places in Whis. It can’t be the end,” read one comment.
“My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined. Zog’s will rise again,” read another.
Whistler is home to a bustling village with plenty of food to choose from, including higher-end fare. Sometimes, though, all you want after a day of skiing is a pile of poutine and a hot dog.
Whistler Blackcomb plans to open on Friday, November 21, 2025, with access to the Blackcomb side of its slopes. Whistler Mountain is set to open the following week.
