Sun Peaks, located in interior British Columbia, is known for being Canada's second largest ski resort by total acreage.
The resort has released a new trail map ahead of the Winter '24/'25 season that includes the new 'West Bowl Express' chairlift. Check it out below.
Sun Peaks' West Bowl terrain was previously serviced by the West Bowl T-bar for over 20 years. The surface lift was decommissioned in 2021, and the West Bowl terrain became accessible only via the Burfield Lift and a short hike to the ridge line.
With the addition of the West Bowl Express, Sun Peaks is bringing the West Bowl terrain back into the fold. The resort has already committed to bring grooming back to West Bowl, and is excited to offer, "a fantastic new pod of intermediate terrain with plenty of cruisey blue runs," once again.
The West Bowl Express is a high-speed four-person lift build by Doppelmayr to the tune of $12 million. The project brings Sun Peaks' lift count to eight chairlifts, and five surface lifts spread out across 4,270 acres of terrain.
Sun Peaks has set Saturday, November 16, 2024 as its targeted opening day.
Sun Peaks more closely resembles a European mountain town than a North American ski resort destination. The resort's terrain is spread out over three peaks on either side of a valley with a ski-through village located on the valley floor.
POWDER covered the resort in a feature story last season, and is planning to be on-hand for the opening of the West Bowl Express later this season. Stay tuned as we plan to roll out video, photo, and editorial content about Canada's second largest ski resort's exciting new expansion.
Sun Peaks joins Powder Mountain, Utah and Lookout Pass Ski Area, ID/MT in releasing a new trail map this season. POWDER will continue to cover the release of new trail maps across the country as they're made available.
