Loveland ski area announced earlier this year that one of their oldest chairlifts would be retired at the end of the 2024/25 season. With Loveland's closing day just around the corner, it's time for folks to bid adieu to Lift 7.
The original Lift 7 was installed in 1982 and was a fixed-grip double chair. After 42 years of cozy double chair rides, Lift 7 will be replaced by a Leitner Poma fixed-grip quad chair ahead of the 2025/26 season.
However exciting a new chair is, there's always a bittersweet nostalgia to retiring a lift. Luckily, lovers of the original Lift 7 will have the chance to own one of the retired chairs.
Loveland is opening a lottery to sell the original chairs from Lift 7 to the public.

Due to demand, only 2025/26 season pass holders will be eligible to enter the lottery. While the chairs are only $650, adult season passes are currently $599.
Registration for the lottery is open until May 27, and winners of the chairs will be notified on May 30. Winners will need to pick chairs up from the mountain between June 2 and June 12 and are reminded that they need the means to transport the chair which is heavy and large. Loveland will also not provide tie-downs or assistance, so bring a buddy to help.
The new Lift 7 is part of the ski area's commitment to investing in its guest experience, specifically for beginner and intermediate skiers. While the chair holds four people, lift ops will only load three to a chair in order to create a more beginner-friendly lift environment.
The Forest Service approved the new lift project in April of 2025 and is one of several projects slated for the summer of 2025 to help improve guest experience. The new chair will be placed in the same alignment as the old lift to reduce the project's environmental impact and preserve the area.
