The time has almost come. Just after Thanksgiving day, on November 29th, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Wyoming, will open for skiers. And now we know what said opening day will look like.
Thanks to a mixture of natural and manmade snow, much of JHMR’s northern terrain will be available. Three lifts—Teewinot, Après Vous, and the Sweetwater Gondola up to the Mid-Station—are scheduled to service this terrain which, according to a release from JHMR, will be blues and greens. The more heady stuff—I’m thinking of you, Corbet’s—will have to wait until later in the season.
JHMR aims to add more terrain during the weekend of December 6th and December 7th. If Mother Nature is feeling cooperative, additional terrain could arrive sooner. The resort pre-determines its closing date in advance. This season, JHMR will wrap things up on April 13th, totaling 134 ski days across 2024 and 2025.
The famed Aerial Tram will spin, too, but not for skiers. Sightseers, instead, are the target audience. Those hoping for a glimpse of the mountains surrounding JHMR can ride the Aerial Tram between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m from Nov. 29th to Dec 1st, Dec. 6th to December 8th, and December 13th through 15th.
What about the waffles? Corbet’s Cabin, atop the Aerial Tram, will indeed be in business and monstrously delicious creations, like a Nutella slathered waffle, are on the menu.
JHMR’s visitor limitation policy, which aims to prevent long lift lines, remains in place.
Day tickets can sell out, and Ikon Pass and Mountain Collective pass holders must make reservations. The only group free from the crowd control program are JHMR season passholders, who can ride the lifts whenever their pass allows without making a reservation (some passes, like The Grand Bypass, have blackout dates).
New for the 2024 and 2025 ski season is the upgraded Sublette chairlift which, once it starts spinning, will have a significantly reduced ride time. This popular contraption serves a mixture of intermediate and expert terrain below Rendezvous Bowl. JHMR aims to hold a soft opening for the lift as soon as conditions allow. A Grand Opening is scheduled for December 20th.
Jeans Skiing Day at JHMR is back for the second season in a row, with $25 tickets available between December 6th and December 8th (from experience, we recommend flannel lined jeans—it can get cold in Wyoming).
