And then there was one.
After the closure of Mount Bohemia on Sunday, April 27, 2025, Boyne Mountain is Michigan's last operating ski resort. It plans to remain open on a weekends-only basis for the foreseeable future.
Initially, Mount Bohemia and Boyne Mountain appeared poised to both offer skiing in May. The ski resorts have a historical informal rivalry where they’ve attempted to remain open longer than the other.
But with Mount Bohemia shutting down, Boyne Mountain is the state’s late-season frontrunner thanks, in part, to the somewhat unconventional Victor "Glacier.”

On this part of the mountain, the resort, aided by a chilly Michigan winter, has been aggressively stacking snow with the goal of keeping the ski season going as long as possible.
In March alone, the mountain operations team spent 30 hours snowmaking. The Victor Glacier reached an impressive snow depth of 280 inches at its peak (23.33ft, 7.11m). As of Sunday, Victor had an average snow depth of 96 inches, according to Boyne Mountain’s latest snow report.
It’s a novel effort for Boyne Mountain. Kari Roder, Boyne Mountain’s director of marketing, told MLive, “We’ve never done this before.” Roder added that the ski resort’s strong investment in snowmaking infrastructure facilitated the push for May skiing.
Last weekend, Boyne Mountain had the Victor run open with access from the Victor lift. The Ramshead park was open, too, but skiers had to hike from the top of the Victor lift to access it and ride the accompanying chairlift.
The available terrain is humble. The Victor Glacier is flanked by dirt and grass, as is the Ramshead terrain park, but starting next weekend, Boyne will be the only place Michigan skiers can ride a lift and schuss downhill.
That fact doesn’t appear to be lost on Boyne Mountain, which is capitalizing on skiers who, despite the arrival of spring and the closure of their home mountain, want to keep playing in the snow. The resort now offers $25 lift tickets to anyone with a valid season pass from another Michigan ski area.
For Boyne Mountain, the long-term goal is to remain open for skiing through Memorial Day weekend. Should the resort make it that far, it’ll be one of the last mountains where you can score lift-accessed turns on the continent.
