The folks at Boyne Mountain, Michigan have made a valiant effort to establish a new spring skiing tradition on what they're calling the Victor Glacier.
Similar to Killington and Jay Peak in Vermont, Boyne intentionally buried the Victor trail with as much snow as they could to allow for a late closing date. Nearly every trail at Boyne is completely void of snow at this point in the year, but the Victor Glacier is standing tall with a thick base perfect for slushy May turns.
The resort recently celebrated the return of Priscilla Sweet, a local legend that turned heads 29 years ago when she was photographed skiing Boyne in a bikini in early May of 1996. Boyne experienced a snowy season that year, and the local paper turned up to write a story about the spring skiing fanatics.
Sweet has swapped her skis for a snowboard since the first photo was taken, but return to ride on May snow in a bikini at Boyne Mountain, Michigan she did. Check out the original news story from 1996 and the recreated photo from 2025 below.

Boyne Mountain notes that while Sweet's first May skiing at experience was due to a particularly cold and snowy winter, this season's fun on the Victor Glacier was no accident.
"This kind of late-season awesomeness isn't just luck. We've been seriously investing in our snowmaking upgrades," says Boyne. "We're talking top-of-the-line tech that lets us pile up the snow and keep the season going strong long after other places have called it quits."
Will May skiing at Boyne Mountain, Michigan become an annual tradition? Based on what the resort is communicating, it appears so:
"The whole idea for the Victor Glacier came from another resort over in New England that is known for its late-season snow. But let's be real, at Boyne Mountain, we took that idea and ran with it. Our first season with the Victor Glacier, we officially surpassed their efforts. Yup, Boyne Mountain is THE place to be for spring turns," writes Boyne. "So, while the rest of the world might be thinking about switching to flip-flops, we're still making memories on the mountain. Come get your last turns in, or maybe even start a new late-season tradition. The Victor Glacier is waiting."
Boyne Mountain's Victor Glacier is open for skiing and riding on Saturdays and Sundays in May until the trail melts. The resort has stated numerous times that it wants to remain open through Memorial Day, conditions and weather permitting.
Skiing in May feels wrong in all of the right ways. If Boyne Mountain is within reach, consider taking a day trip over the next few weekends. Pack sunscreen!
