A long, fruitful season of lift-accesses volcano skiing in central Oregon has finally come to a close. Mt. Bachelor celebrated closing day on Memorial Day, May 26, 2025 with a series of events and 'beach' parties to welcome in spring.
Closing weekend was a culmination of all the best parts of spring skiing at Bachelor. Slushy Summit turns were plentiful through the weekend, and while it definitely got a little sticky in the afternoon, much of the mountain was running pretty darn nicely.

Temperatures stayed warm enough (minus a chilly moment at the top of Summit) to ski in T-shirts, shorts, or whatever costumes folks dreamt up. When lifts stopped spinning at 1:30 p.m. each day, the parking lot tailgate scene was all-time. There was a full on band playing next to a van in the Skyliner lot on Sunday afternoon and every other car had a grill, cluster of lawn chairs, and cooler next to it.
Bachelor set up their Base Camp near the bottom of Pine Marten to keep the festivities going once lifts had closed for the day with lawn chairs, yard games, beer, and live music each day.
On Sunday, May 25th, 100 skiers took their chance at crossing an icy cold pond at Mt. Bachelor's annual North American Pond Skimming Championships. There was plenty of carnage, impressive tricks, and crazy costumes to keep the crowd entertained. California jam band Boot Juice took the Base Camp stage in the afternoon with a high-energy, groovy set complete with matching tie-dye outfits and squid hats.
Temperatures dropped a bit for Bachelor's closing day on Monday, which meant less folks skiing in shorts, but a full mountain of perfect corn skiing. Without the afternoon heat up, the snow stayed perfect through last runs to close out an incredible season at Mt. Bachelor.
A weekend full of perfect spring turns and top-tier tailgates was the best way to close out a truly fantastic season at Mt. Bachelor. The 2024/25 season started with an onslaught of early season snow allowing the mountain to open early. Storm after storm hit Mt. Bachelor through November and December building an incredible base for the mountain, allowing Summit to open earlier than it had in 10 years, and giving it one of the deepest snowpacks in the country.
Throughout the winter, Mt. Bachelor saw record breaking storms that buried its lifts and made for a year of epic avalanche conditions and pow turns. For the first season with Bachelor as my home mountain, I was blown away by the incredible terrain and snow, mountain community, and the dedication and hard work of ski patrol and the ops teams to open the mountain amongst some pretty wild conditions.
Mt. Bachelor was also the object of a fair amount of press over the mountain's possible sale. In April, POWDR Corp. announced their plan to retain ownership of the mountain, and is working to invest in upgrades such as new power lines for lift ops, and more yet-to-be announced improvements to the mountain.
Mt. Bachelor is now closed for the winter season, and guests are discouraged from recreating on the mountain due to the heavy machinery deployed in prep for summer season. The mountain expects to re-open for its summer season of downhill mountain biking, hiking, zip-lining, and sunset dinners at mid-mountain on June 26, 2025.
