A New York ski area is publicly shaming a man for stealing skis by sharing his image to social media.
Holiday Mountain, in upstate New York, posted to social media accounts on Monday, March 10, 2025 to say they'd caught a man who had been stealing skis. With the help of the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department, the resort was able to recover three pairs of stolen skis.
The mountain also said they'd installed over 200 surveillance cameras for customer safety and to prevent situations like this. Check out the original photo shared by Holiday mountain below.

The post really put the thief on blast, so to speak, with a photo of the man handcuffed being led by a police officer in it posted to Instagram.
The following photos show the man being caught on a security camera while stealing a pair of skis, and of two police officers and a pair of recovered skis. The post also had a video of the man being handcuffed by police.
Commenters on the posts applauded the mountain for taking gear theft so seriously and taking measures to keep guests and their skis safe.
The man's identity has not been disclosed by police at this time.
Unfortunately, gear theft at ski resorts seems to be on the rise.
Stevens Pass, WA responded to calls for a ski check service to help prevent gear theft. Black Mountain in Maine has also experienced more ski theft than normal this season, and advised guests to lock their gear up.
Anecdotally, I've seen lots of posts in a local Mt. Bachelor Facebook group about ski theft as well.
From a third party perspective, posting a photo of the thief being arrested could be considered a bit harsh, but on the flip side, there's got to be no bigger bummer than walking outside after enjoying a hot coco and finding your skis missing.
Either way, take note, gear thieves of upstate New York: Holiday Mountain isn't messing around.
