Park City Mountain Resort's Sunrise chair is getting an upgrade. The resort is currently in the process of replacing the Sunrise chairlift, which runs from the base of the Canyons Village, with a new gondola.
Double chair lovers need not go dumpster diving for the old Sunrise seats. Park City is auctioning off the old chairs, with proceeds from the auction benefitting local non-profits. For each of the 12 chairs up for auction, a local artist has been commissioned to decorate the chair in a visual representation of the organization's mission and story.
The non-profits include Christian Center of Park City, Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History, KPCW, Live Like Sam, National Ability Center, Park City Education Foundation, Peace House, People's Health Clinic, Recycle Utah, SOS Outreach, Summit Land Conservancy, and YSA.

The artists commissioned for the project include painters Anna Leigh Moore, Elizabeth Walsh, Scout Maziarz, Angie Bizon, and Morgan McCue, metal smiths Kelly Gallagher and Fred Conlon, and multimedia artists Peg Bordell and Emily Miquelon.
Painter Lamont White, whose work some might recognize from collaborations with various ski areas such as Copper Mountain, Solitude, Big Sky, and Snowbird, Icelantic and Meier Skis, Smith Optics, and Teton Gravity Research, will also design a chair.
The auction will take place Wednesday June 11, 2025 in the Canyons Village from 3-6 p.m. Any chairs not auctioned off at the event will be sold online to benefit the Park City Community Foundation's Early Childhood Alliance.
The Sunrise chair will be replaced with a 6,500 foot, 10-person gondola manufactured by Leitner-Poma. The new gondola will give skiers a third lift option alongside Red Pine Gondola and Orange Bubble Express from the Canyons base area in order to reduce base congestion. The Sunrise Gondola is expected to open for the 2025/26 season.
