At Blue Mountain Resort in Pennsylvania, which has Pennsylvania's largest vertical drop, winter’s not over yet, if it's up to their snowmaking team.

Resort officials report that their snow guns have been fired up since 10pm last night and will continue as long as possible today, with the potential for more snowmaking tonight.

Blue Mountain has their regular ski hours from 9-4 on weekdays, and opens one hour early to allow skiing from 8-4 on weekends.

Blue Mountain currently has a base depth of 12-36 inches, with 2 lifts operating (Comet Quad and Vista Chair) and 30 open trails.

All three expert-only trails are open and all terrain parks are open at this time.

For a resort to be making snow in mid-March, when some resorts have already closed for this year, deserves celebration.

Watching the webcams, it is clear the resort would look very different without this artificial snowmaking going on, and with about one skier per trail, the skiing looks appealing despite the grass on either side of the run.

Blue Mountain Resort Stats/Info:

Vertical: 1,082 ft.

Skiable Terrain: 171 ac.

Average Snowfall: ~50 in.

Lifts: 15

Trails: 40

Snowmaking: YES

Night Skiing: YES

Mega-Pass: Ikon
