Mother Nature heard Ski Portillo's opening day announcement and said 'oh boy better get to work!' May 7, 2025 saw the first little dusting of snow over the famous Chilean ski area.
OpenSnow is reporting that the ski area received 1" of snow over the last 24 hours. There's another 4" forecasted for Thursday, May 8 and another inch the following day. Further out, it's looking like Ski Portillo could receive another few inches May 17, but as always, weather is subject to change that far out.
Temperatures are staying in the mid to low 20's as well so whatever has fallen has a good chance of sticking around and helping build the resort's base before the season kicks off.

The five-day forecast is looking pretty good for a handful of nearby South American ski areas. Chapa Verde is in the lead with 8 inches forecasted. Valle Nevado, who saw a solid dusting of snow at the end of March, is also looking to get five inches of snow over the next few days. El Colorado, Las Leñas, and La Parva are all in the 4" range, and Cerro Catedral and Nevados de Chillan are both hoping to grab 2-3" over the next few days.
Ski Portillo's winter season starts on June 21 and will run until September 27. The resort has a handful of great deals for the all-inclusive hotel as well as several special event weeks throughout the season.
With the northern hemisphere's winter winding down quickly, the thought of a quick getaway to Portillo to ski powder and experience the Chilean Andes sounds pretty enticing. For those in the southern hemisphere, keep doing your snow dances!
