The ski season is officially underway at Whistler Blackcomb, British Columbia.
On Friday, November 21, 2025, skiers and snowboarders climbed aboard the Blackcomb Gondola, riding to the Jersey Cream Express, where the Wishbone trail and an early-season hike park were open.
The opening was limited to the Blackcomb side of Whistler Blackcomb’s slopes. Whistler Mountain has a targeted opening date later this week ahead of the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday.
Here’s a look at the Blackcomb opening day festivities.

Over the weekend, Whistler Blackcomb also announced that the Catskinner Express Chairlift was open, with access to Easy Out.
More snow is set to arrive at Whistler Blackcomb in the coming days. Meteorologist Chris Tomer, a favorite among skiers, recently spied a storm cycle that could deposit several inches at Whistler Blackcomb and others throughout the Pacific Northwest through November 30.
Whistler Blackcomb joins a few other Canadian resorts that have already started the 2025-26 season.
Around Banff, Alberta, three mountains—Lake Louise, Mt. Norquay, and Banff Sunshine—are all operating. Banff Sunshine even notched its earliest opening day in the past several decades on November 2, 2025.
However, in the U.S., a slew of ski resorts across the West have pushed back their opening dates due to mild temperatures in some places. Palisades Tahoe, one of California’s best-known mountains, joined its ranks this past weekend.
Others, like Mammoth Mountain, California, and Brian Head, Utah, have managed to skirt the warm weather, getting the season started last week.
It’s proving to be one of those winters with an uneven, slightly rocky start. But to all those skiers fretting about their local mountains delaying opening day: take a breath. It's only November. If the snow still hasn’t arrived by late December, then we might have cause for concern.
In the meantime, we’re thinking cold thoughts.
