Spring is right around the corner, and if you're anything like us here at POWDER, your ski gear has probably taken a beating this season. Whether it's finally time to replace those all-mountain skis you've had for years, your fancy Gore-Tex pants are now more duct tape than anything else, or you just want to finally splurge on a new backcountry touring setup, late season is a great time to buy new gear as many retailers are steeply discounting their remaining inventory on skis, boots, apparel, and accessories.
Of course, a great place to start is your local ski shop. Next time you're at the hill or the mall, it's worth stopping by your favorite local brick-and-mortar location. Come March, most shops are looking to dump inventory to make room for the summer season and next year's gear. How do they do that? Marking it down, of course! You might even score some benefits like a free mount on new skis or free wax of your existing setup. Give the hardworking ski shop employees some love and see what they have in store for you!
Alternatively, if you don't live near a ski shop or you're looking for something specific from the comfort of your own computer, there are plenty of killer deals online right now. We took a deep dive into what's happening with our favorite brands and online retailers, and here's what we found.
Utah-based backcountry.com is currently running up to 40 percent off most things in their ski and snowboard gear section. There are some fantastic deals on 2024-25 skis and boots, like the Atomic Bent 100 (20% off here) or the Fischer RC4 Pro Boot with a ZipFit liner (40% off here). How about a new ultralight Jetforce UL26 avalanche pack from Black Diamond (45% off here!). That's actually an insane deal on an airbag.
REI is always a great place to find quality gear for less money. Hey, it's REI dividend season this time of year, so if you've spent any money with them or have an REI credit card, it's a great time to spend that extra cash. While REI might not always carry high-end ski gear, I always consider them a great place to get essentials like outerwear, baselayers and socks. How about Arc'teryx's Beta SL shell jacket, a great option for spring ski tours, at a steep discount (29% off here)? Or some new Smartwool ski socks (34% off here)?
Our friends at Evo.com usually have our back when we're looking for something specific in the ski gear world. Right now, there's a huge sale going on with up to 50 percent off current season skis, boots, apparel and accessories. There are some insane discounts on things like helmets, boots and bindings. Check out the Giro Range MIPS helmet ($99 here), Men's Dalbello Cabrio LV 100 boots ($159 here), Women's Dalbello Cabrio LV 95W boots ($199 here), or a pair of limited-edition Look Pivot 15 bindings ($383 here).
Every year, 4FRNT skis releases a list of steeply discounted skis as part of the 4FRNT Stash. These are either previous season's skis or current season models with blemishes from the factory. Lucky for you, they're also usually much cheaper than buying new gear! This year, there are items like 4FRNT Renegades (one of the best powder skis ever made!) at nearly 30% off, or the 4FRNT Switch (a favorite park ski) at over 40% off.
If you're looking for ski touring gear, Salt Lake City specialty shop SkimoCo is probably already on your radar, but did you know they have a rotating cast of items on their discount page? This is an awesome place to find great deals on apparel and specific things like backcountry skiing bindings, boots, skis or skins. Check it out here.
