The 7 Best Resorts for Night Skiing in the United States
Photo: Steve Bly/Getty Images

The majority of skiers don't have the luxury of skiing during the daylight hours of any given weekday. Work, family, and other nuisances get in the way of our time on snow.

Thankfully, there are quite a few ski areas scattered across the country that offer night skiing under varying levels of artificial light.

The majority of ski resorts that offer night skiing are concentrated in the Midwest and East Coast due to size (it's very expensive to light huge swaths of terrain), but the West has its fair share of night skiing hubs that offer long descents hours after the sun goes down.

Without further ado, let's take a look at what sets these night skiing resorts apart from the rest. Note: The following list represents the opinion of the author and is based on personal experiences, mountain statistics, vibes (we're getting really scientific here), and overall reputation. Enjoy.

1. Brighton Resort, Utah

Night Lift Ticket Cost: $51–$72

Night Skiing Terrain: 22+ trails, 5 lifts

When: 4 pm–9 pm, Monday-Saturday, Mid-Season

Brighton Resort has one of the most robust night skiing offerings on the entire continent. The mountain added night skiing trails off The Snake Creek Express lift during the winter '23/'24 season and announced in 2024 that trails accessible by the Milly Express will be lit for night skiing for the first time ever.

The mountain has yet to reveal how many trails will be accessible on Milly, but for now, we can celebrate that Brighton will have 22+ trails, 5 lifts, and multiple opportunities to stack thousands of feet of vertical under the lights. Check out Brighton's website to purchase your lift tickets ahead of time. The mountain offers a variety of timed-access lift tickets to fit your schedule.

2. Bogus Basin, Idaho

Night Lift Ticket Cost: $44 3 pm–close, $24 6 pm–close, $129 night season pass

Night Skiing Terrain:
 26 trails, 200 acres, 7 lifts

When:
4 pm–10 pm, daily

Located less than 20 miles from downtown Boise, Bogus Basin is a night skiing haven. With 240,000+ residents and the state's largest university just a short drive away, Bogus Basin has offered night skiing since 1964 to provide post-work turns. The mountain's mission, in fact, "is to keep outdoor recreation accessible for everyone, including the 9-to-5ers."

Bogus is open until 10 p.m. every day of the season. That's fairly unheard of for a western ski resort, but the price is even more shocking. A night skiing season pass costs just $129 and doesn't have any blackout dates. Unreal.

3. Keystone Resort, Colorado

Night Lift Ticket Cost: $128–$161 daily, access included with Epic Pass

Night Skiing Terrain:
12 trails, 2 lifts

When:
4 pm–7 pm, select weekends

Keystone Resort's most famous trail is undoubtedly the three mile long 'Schoolmarm' trail that winds its way down Dercum Mountain. The resort has lined the entire length of Schoolmarm with lights to offer one of, if not the, longest night skiing trails in the world. The resort offers a dozen trails in total served by two lifts.

Keystone has continuously down-scaled their night skiing operations in recent seasons, but plenty of post-daylight opportunities exist. Make sure to check out which weekends Keystone is operating their night skiing by purchasing lift tickets in advance.

4. Crotched Mountain, New Hampshire

Night Lift Ticket Cost: $76 online

Night Skiing Terrain:
26 trails, 200 acres, 7 lifts

When:
4 pm–9 pm Tuesday-Saturday, 4pm–12am on select 'Midnight Madness' Saturdays.

Crotched Mountain, a small yet satisfying ski area located just 90 minutes from Boston, used to have quite the party scene. The mountain would regularly remain open for night skiing well past midnight. Some skiers remember when the lifts would spin until 3 a.m.

The ski area has since toned down these late night parties, but still offers skiing until 12 a.m. on select 'Midnight Madness' Saturdays throughout the season. That is the latest closing, by far, among the ski resorts featured in this article!

5. Mt. Hood Ski Bowl, Oregon

Night Lift Ticket Cost: Daily ticket price not currently available

Night Skiing Terrain:
36 runs, 4 lifts

When:
Daily but schedule varies

Considered to be America’s Largest Night Ski Area, Mt. Hood Ski Bowl is a 9–5er's dream. The mountain offers top-to-bottom lights on its full 1,500 feet of vertical, and with 36 lit runs, you'll be hard-pressed to get bored.

Ski Bowl is located at a lower elevation than Mt. Hood's other ski areas. This can be an advantage for night skiing as temperatures won't plunge as low as higher up the volcano. Ski Bowl is just a 90-minute drive from Portland.

6. Wild Mountain, Minnesota

Night Lift Ticket Cost: $39

Night Skiing Terrain:
Number of night skiing runs and lifts not listed

When:
4 pm–9 pm daily

Wild Mountain is a freestyle skiing and snowboarding hub. With high-speed rope tows, expertly crafted parks, and lights that stay on until 9pm every night of the season, Wild Mountain fosters a bustling park scene.

The ski area is small, but try telling the countless skiers from Minneapolis and surrounding areas that visit each night that. They don't care. They'll most likely end up stacking more time on snow than you this season!

7. Steamboat Ski Resort, Colorado

Night Lift Ticket Cost: $49–$59 online

Night Skiing Terrain: 5 runs, 2 terrain parks, 1 lift, 1,100 feet of vertical

When:
5:30 pm–8:30 pm Thursday-Sunday

Steamboat gets it. The resort's description of their night skiing terrain hits the nail on the head, "The fun doesn't have to stop when the sun goes down." If only every resort believed that. Steamboat offers night skiing on The Christie Express across a half dozen trails and 1,100 feet of vertical.

That might seem small when compared to Steamboat's massive full terrain offerings, but over 1,000 vertical of lit runs out west is more than respectable. Wear an extra layer, bring out the park skis that you've been meaning to ride, and jib your heart away well after the sun goes down.
