Adidas is making Gore-Tex freeride shell jackets and sponsoring some of my favorite athletes? What is happening?

These questions ran through my head as a wave of Adidas Terrex gear promo flooded my email inbox and social media feeds back in November of 2024.

I still don't have the answers to those questions, but I had the opportunity to test the Adidas Terrex Techrock 3L Gore-Tex C-Knit Jacket this season, and while I was skeptical, my concerns were eased immediately.

Adidas could have hastily thrown together a shell jacket and slapped a Gore-Tex label on it to sell product, but this jacket is more than just that. It's a genuine, made-for-skiers, freeride shell that has become my go-to on the large majority of days spent in-bounds.

I've worn it in everything from pouring rain to heavy powder, and full sunshine to gloomy and windy days. I'm not exaggerating when I say that the Adidas Terrex Techrock 3L Gore-Tex C-Knit Jacket has withstood everything I've put it through thus far.

The last, but perhaps the most important factor, is that the jacket looks and feels good. I've garnered a few double-takes with a big Adidas logo on my chest, but there's no denying that the garment is beautifully and tastefully designed.

Sizing and Fit

Standing at 5'11" and 200 pounds, I'm not a skinny guy per se, and I found the Adidas Terrex Techrock jacket in a Men's size Large to fit perfectly. The length is slightly baggy, but not to the point that I look like I'm starring in a 2007 Level 1 film.

With that said, guy or gals with slightly trimmer builds might want to size down. Adidas recommends 'True to size' for this jacket, but I found the fit to be slightly baggier than most jackets. I personally like the extra wiggle room, but if you're my same height and weigh less, a Medium might be the way to go. Use Adidas' Size Guide if you have any doubts.

To generalize, the Techrock jacket is a quintessential freeride fit. A little bit loose, but comfortable and snug where it needs to be. Pair it with your favorite pair of bibs and you're good to go. It's exactly how I want my shell jackets to fit.

Performance

While I don't have many photos wearing the Adidas Terrex Techrock jacket, I'm rocking it in just about every video on my personal Instagram account.

Simply put, I found myself grabbing for the jacket across the majority of conditions I experience at home at Palisades Tahoe, California, and on the road. I've worn it at Tamarack Resort, Idaho, Sun Peaks, BC, and all over the Sierra Nevada.

I found the Gore-Tex waterproofing to be extremely adept. I put this to the test through a few wet and wild Sierra storms, and never found my upper body, arms, or torso to get wet. That's impressive, in my book.

I typically opt for a hoodie or lighter jacket in spring weather, but I've worn the Adidas Terrex Techrock in sunshine and temps as warm as 45 degrees. The lightweight shell material and ample armpit vents kept me cool enough despite the unplanned warmup.

On the other end of the spectrum, the jacket has excelled in extremely cold temps. I'll never wear an insulated jacket again, but not all shells are equal. I want a shell that's wind proof and easy to layer under, but not bulky and hot. It's a fine line to balance that a lot of companies miss the mark on. Adidas on the other hand, nailed it with their 3L Gore-Tex exterior.

The Adidas Terrex 3L Gore-Tex C-Knit jacket has a durable, slightly rough-to-the-touch feel on the exterior. To put it in layman's terms, the first time I picked up the jacket, I immediately said, out loud to nobody, "Oh, wow. That feels good."

Watch the rain and snow roll right off of you while your friends get soaked on the chairlift. It's one of my favorite pastimes while wearing The Adidas Terrex 3L Gore-Tex C-Knit Jacket.
