Palisades Tahoe, California is bringing back it's legendary pond-skim for it's 33rd year!

The Cushing Crossing pond skim is known as the 'original' pond skimming event and for being one of Palisades' best spring events. Unlike other pond-skim events, Cushing Crossing takes place on a naturally occurring pond with a panel of celebrity judges. Weather permitting, the event will take place on May 10, 2025 at 1 p.m.

Participants have the chance to win great prizes in multiple categories from Yeti, Smith, GoPro, Darn Tough, and more.

Palisades Tahoe was home to the legendary Shane McConkey who, amongst other things, was one of the first to pioneer a design for powder skis based off the wide skis used for water skiing. McConkey was also known for his costumed alter-ego, Saucer Boy. So, in the spirit of McConkey, grab your widest powder skis and your craziest costume and try your hand at the Cushing Crossing this weekend.

Space is limited for pond skimmers so registration is on a first come, first serve basis, costs $20, and starts at 8am on the KT deck the day of the event. Admission for spectators is free and everyone is encouraged to dress up, even if they're not skimming. Palisades will also be holding a raffle to support the Palisades Avalanche Dog program.

Following the Cushing Crossing, Palisades is open for spring laps until Memorial Day (May 26) and is offering three single day for $99 each that can be used any day until the end of the season.
