Depending on where you live, the end of the ski season might arrive in March, April, May, or even later.
Still, barring a journey to the southern hemisphere, most avid skiers in North America have to eventually contend with the fact that there will be no chairlift rides or powder turns for at least a few months.
Losing your favorite sport can be hard, particularly so for one Redditor who, in a recent post, fished for suggestions that might help them deal with the off-season blues.
“I sleep, I eat, I ski, I go home, I think about skiing, I sleep. But now… it’s the offseason. There’s a hole in my heart,” they wrote, asking the internet how they should fill the skiing-sized void. Keep reading for more.

The suggestions flowed in, some useful, others not so much, like one tongue-in-cheek tip involving hard drugs and gas stations that isn’t fit for print.
Aside from that joke, the prevailing theme was this: find another hobby. Skiing is magical and can make other pursuits feel tame in comparison, but it isn’t the only way to play outdoors or otherwise keep yourself entertained before the snow starts falling again.
“I work out. Try to get as in shape as I can so that I can ski more during the season,” a commenter offered, before admitting that they’ve thought about getting into mountain biking, but were afraid of getting injured.
Still, several comments highlighted mountain biking, and for good reason—the sport has a reputation for mirroring the sensation of skiing, provided you’re comfortable with the fact that gravel and dirt, unlike soft snow, isn’t pleasant to fall on.
You could also ratchet up the seasonal confusion, head into the backcountry, trek to some high-altitude snow, and go skiing without chairlifts, too.
“Mountaineering. and if you live in the PNW, you can keep ski Mountaineering til some point in August,” another commenter proposed.
That comment, however, was put in check by a reply that pointed out that summer backcountry skiing often isn’t a picnic: “Turns all year -- is something I'm not going to do because I'm not a masochist.” Fair enough.
Ultimately, whatever you do during the summer doesn’t need to involve or resemble skiing, as long as it gets you fired up. My favorite off-beat suggestion from the Reddit comment chain was magnet fishing. I mean, why not? You can pick up a magnet fishing rig online for about $25 and, if you’re lucky, you might trawl up a treasure chest, or something.
