Mikaela Shiffrin has become one of the most decorated alpine skiers in Winter Olympics history. She won her first gold medal in the slalom at the 2014 Sochi Games, then added two more medals, a gold (giant slalom) and a silver, (combined) at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games. However, the 2022 Winter Olympics did not go the Team USA skier's way, as she failed to win a medal in Beijing.
But Shiffrin returned for her fourth Winter Olympics at Milano Cortina 2026, looking to add to her medal count. While she did not place in her first two events, the 30-year-old from Colorado bounced back on Wednesday, winning her third Olympic gold in the women's slalom, Shiffrin's final event of the 2026 Winter Games.
Throughout her decorated skiing career, Shiffrin has used her platform to support the Share Winter Foundation, launching the MikGives initiative in 2021. The campaign aims to “give thousands of kids the chance to click into skis or strap into a snowboard for the very first time.” It has also funded 70 programs across the United States, expanding access to skiing and snowboarding for children who otherwise might not have the opportunity.
On Wednesday, just hours after winning her lone gold in Milan, Shiffrin shared exciting news about MikGives as she continued to celebrate. In a joint post on Instagram, Shiffrin revealed that since her 100th World Cup victory one year ago, MikGives has raised about $500,000 for the Share Winter Foundation.
" Gold on the world stage. Real impact at home," Share Winter Foundation wrote on Instagram. "Share Winter Ambassador @MikaelaShiffrin just won gold. And the GOAT gives back. Since her 100th World Cup win, MikGives has helped raise nearly $500,000 for Share Winter.
"That’s not symbolic. That’s 1,000 kids getting a full season to ski and ride. Not a one-time experience. Not a photo op. A pathway. Champions don’t rise alone. And they don’t leave the next generation behind. If you cheered for the gold, this is your moment to be part of what it fuels. Support MikGives. Help put the next 1,000 on snow."
While Shiffrin continues to enjoy her fourth Olympic medal win, it is unclear if she will be back in 2023 when the Winter Olympics head to the French Alps.
