This past Saturday, after a day spent skiing at Brighton Resort, Utah, snowboarder Loren Richardson headed outside resort boundaries through the gates near the Great Western Lift to return to his Airbnb.

Then, while sliding down a plowed road, Richardson was accosted by a man brandishing a shotgun.

A video shared by Richardson on Instagram captured the incident.

"Private property, you [Expletive]," the man said before asking, "What are you, an Ikon user?"

Richardson—in an apparent attempt to de-escalate—unstrapped from his snowboard. As he walked away, he told the man that he "didn't see" a private property sign.

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, Brighton has several exit gates that lead skiers and snowboarders onto public property. The Tribune notes that Richardson appeared to be riding a public road accessed via one of these gates.

However, it's unclear if he unintentionally crossed onto private property owned by the shotgun-wielding man.

In an article published yesterday, Danial Knopp, the mayor of Brighton, told KUTV that the man who accosted Richardson has had several run-ins with the police due to past aggressive behavior.

The incident is under investigation by the Unified Police Department.
