After a fantastic season out East, Killington is shutting down its lifts.

The Vermont ski area had planned to keep daily operations running through May 11 and run lifts on weekends till 5 p.m. after that, according to a post on the mountain's social media.

Days after announcing that, the resort was forced to close for a couple of days to preserve the snowpack and allow the grooming team to freshen things up a bit. Unfortunately, Mother Nature will have the last say for Mother's Day weekend skiing.

Here's a look at the current conditions.

Since May 1, Killington has gotten 3.21 inches of rain and is expecting more. As of May 9, the mountain plans to reopen for its final day of the season on Saturday, May 10. For closing day, terrain will be for advanced and expert skiers only, and walking to and from the snow will be required, specifically on the runout back to the K1 Base Area.

While 3+ inches of rain make for a bit of a somber end to the season, Killington is making the best of the situation by helping out another mountain.

Lift tickets on closing day will be just $30, and all proceeds from lift tickets will be matched by Killington and donated to Whaleback Mountain. Since March, the New Hampshire ski area has been fundraising to repair its only chairlift ahead of the 2025/26 ski season. In order for repairs to take place, they ultimately need $250,000.

Killington will share more updates throughout Friday, May 9, leading up to the weekend. The photos they shared don't look crazy inspiring, but for $30 to a great cause and a couple of last lift-accessed turns, it could be well worth the rally.

With 253" of total snowfall this season, it's been a great year for Killington and other mountains in the east. Jay Peak will also run lifts for the last day of the season on Sunday, May 11.
