Lindsey Vonn has had a whirlwind of an Olympic season. Vonn announced her return to alpine skiing in 2024 after she had been retired for nearly four years. She suffered a torn ACL, bone bruise and meniscus damage less than two weeks prior to the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics beginning.
Despite this, she came into the Olympics as the leader in the World Cup downhill standings and was one of the favorites to win the gold medal in the competition.
Vonn is widely regarded as one of the greatest skiers of all time. In her career, she has won three Olympic medals, one gold and one bronze in 2010 and another bronze medal in 2018.
The 41-year-old American legend from Saint Paul, Minnesota, was hoping to take home another gold in Italy this year, but her time at the Olympics came to an unceremonious end. On Feb. 8, as she was competing in the women's downhill event, Vonn had a frightening crash that had her get airlifted by a rescue helicopter.
In the crash, she suffered a fractured left leg, the same one that had a torn ACL from nine days earlier. Since the incident, Vonn has kept her spirits high by posting on social media for her fans to see.
On Monday, she shared a heartwarming video on her Instagram of her being helped by friends, family and medical staff.
"Thankful for friends, family, my team and all the medical staff that are getting me back to myself…. I’m slowly coming back to life, back to basics and the simple things in life that mean the most. Smile. Laugh. Love. ❤️
My sister @kar_inthegarage made this video and it instantly made me cry and made my heart full. Love you guys ❤️," the caption read.
While she said the video, which was made by her sister, Karin Kildow, made her cry, it was a positive message to send her fans and friends, who know she is in good hands.
