The end of the season in the southeast is unfortunately near.
That’s the bad news. The good news? One of the most fun events is back at Beech Mountain, North Carolina, and it’s helping with a good cause.
The annual Beech Banked Slalom is back on March 7, 2026, and the proceeds will benefit the Colon Cancer Coalition. The race features a slalom course built around bermed turns that will challenge skiers and riders. Registration is open now, and there are slots available for skiers and snowboarders of all ages.
Packet pickup will begin at 8 a.m. on the day of the event. The race starts at 11 a.m. atop Robbins Run, and awards will be presented in the Taproom and Grill immediately after the race.
It’s all part of a weekend filled with events meant to both help a good cause and bring some fun to your March. It kicks off Friday, March 6, with The Not So Gala, followed by Gala with The SteelDrivers. The Jenkins Twins will open for Chris Stapleton’s former band. Tickets will cost $100 and include dinner catered by Reids Catering.
Then on Saturday, if you aren’t competing in the Banked Slalom, you can give Runs For Buns a try. What exactly is Runs For Buns? It’s kind of like Last Skier Standing, but for people who use chairlifts. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., get on the chairlift and try to ski or snowboard as many runs as possible using Lift Five. There will be special lift lines designated for those participating, and whoever has the most runs at the end of the day wins.
Beech Mountain will donate all lift ticket costs to the Colon Cancer Coalition. A valid lift ticket is required.
The weekend is in honor of Kelly-Grier Costin, a beloved member of the Beech Mountain Resort family who passed in 2021 after a battle with colon cancer. The KG Ripple Effect Award is given to someone who has shown remarkable strength, courage, and dedication to the colon cancer community, whether as a survivor, healthcare worker, or volunteer. You can nominate a recipient here.
