The only board-specific shop in Boise, Idaho will shut its doors this fall.

The BoardRoom has been a staple of the community since it opened in 1995. The owners were left with no choice but to shut down operations after the landlords told them they have listed the building for sale, an Instagram post said.

“Unfortunately, with no prior notice, we were left with little time to secure a new location before winter inventory starts arriving. Despite exploring every option, we’ve come to the difficult conclusion that closing is our best path forward,” the post said. “Starting (August 1st), we’ll begin winding down operations with an inventory sale running over the next 8 weeks. For now, our store hours and days of operation will remain the same.”

The BoardRoom is typically open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day except for Saturday, when it’s open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The BoardRoom co-posted an Instagram post with Slush, The Magazine to announce the news. The shop was founded in 1995 at the corner of 30th and State Streets. It was open seasonally until 1997, according to Boise Dev, when it then remained open year-round. A secondary location in McCall was opened in 2017, but has also closed.

The social media accounts from other local boardshops like Truckee Boardhouse, Satellite Boardshop, and Damage Duluth all commented on the post, as did the official Nitro Snowboards account.

“Thank you for everything you and the crew have done over the last 30 years for the community,” it said.

This is at least the second boardshop in the U.S. that’s announced a closure in the last six months. The Garden, which has been a staple of the western Massachusetts community, announced in April that it was up for sale after 24 years. Like The BoardRoom, The Garden was the only board sports specific shop in the region.

As The BoardRoom starts to offload inventory, owner Chris Heise encouraged members of the community to come in and say goodbye.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the friendships, community, and support we’ve built together over the past three decades. Our customers, employees, and partners have become extended family — and we feel deeply honored to have shared so many unforgettable moments with you,” he wrote. “We invite you to stop by, say hello, throw a high five, grab some amazing storewide deals, and reminisce with us about the good ole days. We’d love to see you.”
