Here's What We Know About The X Games League So Far
(Photo Ezra Shaw/Getty Images

The X Games has made one thing clear: It is all in.

As for the rest of the details, they’re a little bit murky. The X Games rolled out a complete rebrand at the end of September. As for more concrete details about the X Games League, that is rolling out a little bit more slowly.

Just days after the rebrand was announced (and met with varying opinions online), a video narrated by Selema Masekela was released detailing some of the bigger points of the X Games League. Here’s what we know so far.

The Basics

There will be two seasons: summer and winter. Every club will be privately owned. Teams will be comprised of both male and female athletes. In 2026, there will be three stops, each of which will last three days. In 2027, that number will double.

Which Sports Will Be Included?

Athletes from the following “sports” will be on each team:

  • Skateboarding
  • BMX
  • Snowboarding
  • Skiing

For snowboarding, the four events that have point-earning potential are:

  • Superpipe
  • Big air
  • Slopestyle
  • Knuckle huck.

Street style, unfortunately, is not listed as an event that will earn points. It is unsure whether or not it will continue to exist as an event in the future.

Skiing will be scored the same way. Skaters will earn points in street, park, and vert contests. BMX will earn points in men’s street, park, men’s dirt, and big air.

First place gets 100 points, second place gets 85 points, third place gets 75, fourth gets 60, fifth gets 50, sixth gets 40, seventh gets 30, and eighth gets nothing.

The format will remain the same. Each event will consist of athletes getting three runs, before making it into the “playoffs.” The best score counts.

Which Athletes are Competing?

According to their website, 150 action sports athletes have opted into the X Games League. The draft is scheduled for spring 2026, with summer 2026 kicking off the competition.

Chloe Kim, Jamie Anderson, Mia Brookes, Mark McMorris, Ayumu Hirano, Cocomo Murase, Mark McMorris, and Zeb Powell are among the confirmed snowboarders. Skiers Zoe Atkin and Alex Ferreira, and skaters Rayssa Leal, Leticia Bufoni, Nyjah Huston, and Ryan Scheckler are some of the other athletes that have been locked in for the X Games League.

Club general managers will lock in their picks for each contest at the beginning of each weekend. Multiple athletes can join the same contest, but only the highest finisher can score points for a club.

The Teams

The clubs will be “regionally repped and globally stacked.”

Athletes from anywhere in the world can be drafted to an X Games Club, and once they are, they will be assigned to that club for two or three years. The clubs will have a snake draft to fill out the 10 athlete roster. The first four clubs will pick two athletes per round, one man and one woman.

Just like conventional sports, an athlete doesn’t have to be from a specific region to represent that region on the team. That means Liam Brearly can compete for a United States-based club, Zeb Powell can compete for a team based out of California, and Chloe Kim could be riding for a team based on the east coast. This is all hypothetical, of course.

The league is fielding interest from investors on potential ownership. That is all we know so far. It is unclear where the clubs will be based out of. It is also unclear whether or not athletes will be required to spend significant time at that location.

The Point System

Teams and athletes will earn points at every stop. A podium finish is rewarded heavily, but at the end of each tour stop, ranking points will be assigned based on the final placement of an athlete. Clubs and individuals will rack up points at each stop.

Alternates

Undrafted athletes can be signed to a team as a free agent. In the case of injuries, a club can sub out a player before the stop.
