A ski area in New Hampshire is for sale.
Ragged Mountain, an Indy Pass-affiliate located in Danbury, NH just north of the Mount Kearsarge State Forest, has been listed for sale by the commercial real estate firm CBRE Group. With the purchase will come 1,900 acres, and 800 potential residential lots, according to reporting from the Concord Monitor.
An asking price has not yet been made public. The ski area is located about 100 miles from Boston and 60 from Manchester, New Hampshire.
The sale comes on the tales of one of the most successful years the mountain has had. Perhaps thanks in part to its Indy Pass affiliation, the mountain surpassed the 100,000 skier/snowboarder visit mark for the first time ever, Marketing Manager Kyle Matzke told the Monitor. Part of that was thanks to a good snow year.
“It’s nice to finally get a real winter here,” Matzke said.
Skier and rider visits have tripled since the current owner Doug Anderson acquired the ski area and turned over the management to Pacific Group Resorts, Inc. in 2007, according to Ski Area Management.
CBRE’s Brandon Schempp told the New Hampshire Union Leader that Anderson is stepping back from the ski industry and last year stepped down as chairman of Pacific Group, though he is still the majority owner.
Ragged feels like a “hometown ski area” and Schempp said that there are many who are committed to ensuring that feeling doesn’t go away.
“The loyalty is there,” he told the Union Leader.
The past few years have seen upgrades in parking, snowmaking, and base-area lodging. A master plan includes upgrades for a terrain expansion onto Pinnacle Peak.
Individual residential lots between .30 acres and 1 acre are being sold on the Ragged Mountain website as well. They start at $209,000.
The news was made public just as Ragged held a weekend celebrating its 60th birthday. The first 1,000 lift tickets sold went for just $19.65, the same price as they were when the ski area first opened. The next 100 were sold for $60. There was a freestyle contest and a party lap from the summit, among other ways of celebrating.
Ragged’s closing day for 2025 is planned for April 6.
