Every so often, a Prada snowboard makes headlines. This time, it was for a good reason.

Red Bull athlete and sky surfer Sean MacCormac has the action sports world ablaze after  diving 5,000 feet from a plane, sky surfing, and boardsliding San Francisco's Bay Bridge. He did so with a Prada board strapped to his feet.

MacCormac then landed safely on a barge floating in the bay. A story published by Tom Monterosso on Red Bull's website says that MacCormac and Red Bull worked together for 18 months to make the stunt happen.

The idea was born from MacCormac's imagination after shooting a commercial  in Los Angeles. Check out the attempt below.

"We had a lunch break and I was looking out over LA, daydreaming about skysurfing, and I just imagined this impossible grind where you could use the canopy to grind a rooftop or something," he told Monterosso. "Seeing lines with this equipment that I wouldn’t have imagined otherwise. From there, it just kind of percolated into this.”

The execution of the stunt was top-secret. A crew ventured out to Skydive Elsinore in July to practice using a 182-foot crane with a descending wire to emulate the iconic bridge. Not even the San Francisco mayor was made aware that this was going down.

"That was one of the most technical things I’ve ever done," MacCormac told Red Bull. "It was wildly dangerous and extremely high stakes. There’s about a dozen disaster points that you’re cruising through."

The Bay Bridge was built in 1936. It's safe to say that no one has ever executed a proper boardslide on it, and though it was a bit zeeched, we'll count it.

“This project brings a dream to life,” MacCormac told the CR Fashion Book. “In my profession, I have the benefit of seeing some of the world’s most amazing architecture from different perspectives, and I’ve often found myself daydreaming about what might be possible. To be able to slide along the cables of the iconic Bay Bridge brings this vision to life – it’s incredible being part of the full team effort to make this project a reality, from the collaboration with Prada Linea Rossa and board design with the Luna Rossa team to the countless hours of training, repetition and preparation that made us ready for this moment.”

Prada outfit MacCormac head to toe, from his sunglasses to the board and nearly everything in between. The last time Prada's board made headlines, it was due to Jules Marino being forced to cover up her base ahead of the big air qualifier in the 2022 Winter Olympics.
