Remembering Five of The Dingo's Best Moments

“We’ll never get another Dingo on this planet.”

That’s what musician Machine Gun Kelly said when he learned about the death of Luke “The Dingo” Trembath. Dingo, the former professional snowboarder and media personality was beloved across the entire community, and his impact extended beyond the snow. MGK, Tony Hawk, NASCAR driver Kurt Busch, and Avril Lavine all posted tributes to him after his death.

Dingo moved to the U.S. from Australia at the age of 14 to train with the national snowboard team. His journey first brought him to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and he eventually moved to Mammoth Lakes. He became a pro at 17 years old and cofounded Grenade Gloves with Danny Kass.

Here are some of the most memorable moments with The Dingo.

5. "You gotta look in the mirror, and say I love you. And that’s a f*cking hard thing to do."

The Dingo went on The Bomb Hole during the podcast’s earliest days. There were plenty of laughs involved, but one of the most impactful moments of the episode was when he talked about self-love. After snowboarding, Trembath was searching for his identity. He talks about being proud of himself for who he is, and the importance of reaching that, no matter how hard that might be. The quote above is one to remember.

4. The Grenade Tour

Snowboard legend and best friend Danny Kass created the Grenade 4/20 Games as a way to break the traditional mold of the snowboarding industry. The duo toured the country with Lucas Magoon (and at one point, Lil Jon) to change one up-and-coming rider’s life. It was a noble cause, but of course, the journey along the way was filled with dunk tanks, bike rides inside of a Target, and plenty of partying.

3. The Australian Mind Trick

How do you sneak into bars at the age of 15? You play up the Australian accent, and convince everyone you’re rapidly approaching 30. When Trembath finally did turn 21, no one believed him. He had been hitting the local watering holes for years.

2. Find Your Grind

Trembath’s second act: co-founding the nonprofit Find Your Grind. The organization provides learning experiences to children, educators, and administrators that help navigate the future of working in nontraditional roles.

The group ditches the script on traditional career planning and uses a lifestyle-focused approach. It is still used in schools and educational programs today.

1. Ozzy Osbourne’s Private Jet

Not many professional snowboarders get to ride on a private jet. Dingo used to black out from drinking, and come-to aboard Ozzie Osbourne’s.

“Had the best night with The Dingo and my Dadda,” Osbourne’s daughter Kelly once said. “Dingo is never allowed to talk to my father about blimps again!”

The incidents stemmed from Dingo’s relationship with Kelly. It wasn’t uncommon for him to find himself on Ozzie’s plane with the rest of the family, to someone feeding him water. Or Jack Daniels, depending on who recalls the story.
