The Mammoth Mountain ski patroller who was caught up in an avalanche on February 14 has died as a result of her injuries.

Claire Murphy died after being transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The avalanche occurred on Lincoln Mountain in the Avy Chutes area, where patrollers were conducting mitigation work.

That part of the mountain was closed to the public. Murphy was buried along with another patroller. The other patroller was uninjured after extraction.

The slide followed a massive snowstorm that dropped 6’ on the resort in less than 48 hours time.

“It is with a heavy heart we share that the Ski Patroller, Claire Murphy, who sustained serious injuries last Friday, February 14 has passed away,” the Instagram post from Mammoth said. “Our hearts are with her family and our community as we navigate this tragedy together. We will plan to share more information regarding memorial services and fundraising programs in the days to come.”

Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and loved ones of Claire.
