You thought it was mountain biking season, didn't you?

A winter storm system moved through California, Utah, Montana, Colorado, and more this past weekend. Palisades Tahoe, CA looked like it does at the start of winter.

It all happened just a day before the Broken Arrow Sky Race, a trail running contest that was scheduled to take place at the resort. "When the clouds left Olympic Valley, it looked like the beginning of another winter," the event's Instagram page said in a post.

Palisades had the last day of the season at the end of May. Nearby Northstar and Kirkwood closed a week later than originally scheduled on April 20, 2025.

June snowfall does happen sometimes, though it typically only happens every "five to 10 years," according to the National Weather Service. Snow helped extend the season in 2017, as it was still going strong on June 20, 2017. Unless you really hate the base of your board, it's not advisable to try and ride the resort after this snowfall.

Bridger Bowl, Palisades Tahoe, Grand Targhee, Mt. Hood, Mt. Bachelor, Sun Valley, and Whitefish all received snowfall over the weekend. One couple who had planned a wedding for 5 p.m. on June 21 was caught outside in the storm. POWDER's Izzy Lidsky has more on that story here.

The Bridger Bowl Instagram account had a photo of 2 inches of snow on a chairlift.

In a report published on Saturday, June 21, 2025, the National Weather Service said:

"Ahead of the front, windy and dry conditions will produce critical fire weather conditions and a Red Flag Warning is in effect for southeast Utah and portions of west-central Colorado this afternoon through early evening. As the front moves through, several inches of snow will accumulate over the Colorado northern mountains, where a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect."
