A snowboarder that died in the terrain park of an Australian resort has been identified as University of Utah student Drew Youngquist.
Youngquist, 22, died at Perisher Ski Resort on the afternoon of August 12, 2025, according to The Sydney Morning Herald. He had been in Australia since May, working during his summer break. The Morning Herald says that he described himself as a pre-medical student and ambulance first responder. Youngquist had worked as a ski patrol member for Utah Olympic Park.
The rider was hurt in a serious crash at the Front Valley Terrain Park, the resort said in a statement. He was treated by paramedics on the scene, where he later died from his injuries.
“Perisher Ski Resort, Ski Patrol, and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our guest's family and friends,” general manager Nathan Butterworth said.
Vail Resorts purchased Perisher in 2015. It is the biggest resort in Australia, with 44 lifts and five terrain parks.
