Southern Utah and northern Utah, rejoice. You can snowboard at a resort this weekend.

Both Solitude and Brian Head are spinning chairlifts today, marking the official start of the snowboard season in Utah. Solitude beat out Brian Head Resort, which is located 250 miles south near the Arizona border, by just an hour to claim the title of first ski area opened in the state.

Solitude is offering $25 lift tickets this weekend, and riders with a military ID can snowboard or ski with their dependents for free on Sunday. Riders in Salt Lake City looking to get after it will need to take advantage of the weekend or wait until next, however. The resort will shut down after closing hours on Sunday, and reopen the following Friday.

Rentals and two hour private lessons are half-off this weekend, and there will be a few park features set up for those who would prefer to jib.

On November 15, the season resumes with an opening day DJ and donuts party. The Moonbeam Express lift should also be open.

Over at Brian Head, lift tickets are as cheap as $19 this month (for this weekend, they currently cost between $61 and $79—Brian Head uses demand-based pricing). Online purchases include a $10 resort credit that can be used for dining, rentals, tubing, or more lift tickets in the future.

Once Brian’s Head is open, it will remain open until its projected closing day, which is May 4 as of now.

Snowbird is projecting an opening day on November 28. A surprise eight inches of snowfall hit the mountain yesterday.

Woodward Park City is also working hard at making snow. The senior manager of mountain parks Benny McGinnis took to Instagram to answer some frequently asked questions, and said that if weather continues to cooperate the way that it has been, the mountain should be open by the first week of December.

Natural snow is also falling at Park City Mountain, and the snow guns are firing. Right now, Snowbasin is also projected to be open by the end of November, while Powder Mountain, Beaver Mountain, and Eagle Point are scheduled to open before Christmas.

Alta and Deer Valley are expected to open…Just kidding! Who cares?

Of course, the season has already started in Utah for Salt Lake City-area jibbers. The Bone Zone, a do-it-yourself hike park in the woods at Brighton Resort. Just make sure you don’t show up to it without a shovel.
