2023 Women's World Cup to go ahead as scheduled amid rumors of postponement

According to FIFA, the 2023 Women's World Cup will go on as scheduled.

On Thursday, French newspaper L'Equipe reported that FIFA had met with "several European football leaders" about the possibility of postponing the WWC.

According to the report, FIFA allegedly investigated moving the tournament back after receiving less than favorable offers to broadcast the event. Rescheduling the tournament would also allow for better playing conditions and more daylight for games.

After the report began to gain traction, a FIFA spokesperson rejected the claims to ESPN.

"After a successful 'One Year to Go' event, the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 is scheduled to kick off on 20 July 2023," the FIFA spokesperson told ESPN. "No changes to the dates of the competition are foreseen."

The 32-team 2023 Women's World Cup is scheduled to begin on July 20 at Auckland's Eden Park, with the Finals set for Sydney's Stadium Australia on Aug. 20.

The United States Women's National Soccer Team will enter the tournament as the two-time defending champions. The US knocked off the Netherlands to win the 2019 tournament in France and defeated Japan in the 2015 finals in Canada.
