Chelsea have made their first move for their new affiliate club Strasbourg, and it’s a big one.
Fabrizio Romano has today revealed that the Blues have been “crucial” in the French side’s club record bid for Abakar Sylla, the Club Brugge centre back.
It’s a €20m fee, with a further €2m in bonuses available. There is also a 10% sell on clause for the Belgians.

That smashes Strasbourg’s existing record and shows how quickly things are going to change in their new era of cooperation with Chelsea. Romano added that the Blues think the youngster has “huge potential” and this move is very much with an eye on bringing him to London if he fulfils it.

In the meantime, he will be the rock at the back for a Strasbourg team who wants to shake off the status of relegation battler and become a team challenging at the top of Ligue 1 consistently.
