23-year-old likely to stay at Tottenham because of UEFA rules despite not starting regularly

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp has struggled for regular game time at the north London club this season.

The 23-year-old midfielder has started just four games in the Premier League and he needs to play more often at this stage of his career. Skipp was highly rated when he broke through to the first team scene, but his development has not gone according to plan.

Tottenham already have players like Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr operating in his position and the 23-year-old is unlikely to get ample game time this season. There have been rumours that he could look to move on at the end of the season.

However, UEFA rules state that a club must name four club-trained players from the youth system in their 25-man List A squad list. If they fail to do so, the squad size will be reduced accordingly.

Spurs have already parted ways with players like Harry Kane and Harry Winks this season. Japhet Tanganga is likely to leave the club at the end of the season as well. Therefore, it is highly likely that they will retain Skipp beyond this summer.

Tottenham currently have three players who would be eligible to be named in the List A – Brandon Austin, Alfie Whiteman and Skipp.

It will be interesting to see if they can offer him more game time next season. The midfielder will certainly hope to force his way into the starting lineup in the coming months. It remains to be seen whether he can impress Ange Postecoglou in training and convince the manager that he deserves more opportunities.
