Tyrell Malacia will leave Manchester United in the summer of 2026

Manchester United will continue to make changes as Ruben Amorim builds the squad to suit his project. The Red Devils are planning to move on players who are no longer in the Portuguese manager’s plans, and one of them is Tyrell Malacia.

The 24-year-old left-back returned to Old Trafford after a loan spell at PSV Eindhoven and rejoined Manchester United training. GIVEMESPORT’s senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano reports that Malacia will leave United when his contract expires next year. The club have no plans to offer him a new deal.

The 24-year-old has endured a frustrating period since joining from Feyenoord in 2022. He has played only 47 times in total and, this season, has not featured once under Amorim. Even though the 26-year-old impressed on loan at PSV with 12 matches and three Champions League appearances, those efforts failed to change his situation at Old Trafford.

Amorim wants attacking wing-backs who push high to contribute in the final third. Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu are the best options for United in those roles, and Malacia does not fit the profile Amorim wants in his system. The Dutchman last played in a United shirt in January before his loan move to PSV.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s pursuit of Semenyo adds fresh spark to the transfer rivalry with United, showing how quickly priorities shift at the top level. Malacia now watches from the bench as his chances fade, and his quiet presence makes that even clearer.

“Tyrell Malacia, despite returning to training with the first team of Manchester United after a crazy window where he had several opportunities, Tyrell Malacia is not going to sign any new contract at Man United, and in any case, will leave the club for sure, 100% in 2026.”

A fall from promise and the cost of lost momentum

Malacia’s debut season showed a lot of promise. He also played an important part in United’s Carabao Cup run, but a knee meniscus injury in the summer of 2023 derailed everything. He returned under Amorim last November and played eight matches.

In January, Malacia joined PSV to regain fitness and helped them win the Eredivisie title during his spell there. When the left-back came back to Manchester, Amorim still did not include him in his main plans. The manager prefers attacking wing-backs and rarely uses a traditional full-back like Malacia.

Reports say Amorim has already marked him as one of the players he can let go. His contract runs until 2026, but United seem ready to move on. As we reported earlier, United’s summer target, Marc Casadó, is drawing attention from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea, showing where the club’s priorities now lie. Now, United have secured Diego Leon as well, so there should be no place for the 24-year-old left-back.

Malacia’s story mirrors many signings who lose their spot after a change in tactics and leadership. His next decision will shape whether he rebuilds the career that once looked secure or slips into another uncertain phase.
