Jadon Sancho is now into the final six months of his Manchester United contract, and the expectation remains that he will see out the rest of his loan spell at Aston Villa before becoming a free agent in the summer.
That upcoming contact end has only added to the feeling that this season is more about positioning than momentum, with the winger still struggling to force his way into Unai Emery’s plans on a consistent basis.
So far, Sancho has made 14 appearances across all competitions, totalling 560 minutes of football, which underlines just how limited his impact has been despite Villa competing on multiple fronts.
Whilst United have the option to extend his contract by 12 months, their two years of failed attempts to sell him have lead to them deciding on letting his contract simply run out.
Now, Spanish outlet Sport claim three European clubs have begun making enquiries over his availability, naming Como, Borussia Dortmund and AS Monaco as sides monitoring the situation ahead of the winter window.
The same report suggests Villa’s intention is to keep Sancho for the remainder of the season, but United may have other ideas.
It’s understood The Red Devils are weighing up whether ending the loan early would allow them to move him on immediately, rather than lose him for free in the summer.
For Sancho, it is another chapter in a United career that never got close to matching the player who lit up the Bundesliga at Dortmund and earned that move to Old Trafford in 2021.
Since then, the story has been a series of resets, a Dortmund return on loan, a year at Chelsea that didn’t lead to a permanent deal, and now a fresh start at Villa that still hasn’t delivered regular minutes or a clear role.
As the January window approaches, United’s wider rebuild and Sancho’s contract timeline are colliding, and these enquiries may be the first sign that his next move is already being shaped.
