Mason Mount delivered an unacceptable performance for Manchester United in the Europa League final loss against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday. Spurs beat the Red Devils 1-0 in the final to end their 17-year trophy drought, adding to United’s miserable season.

United fans have endured a horror season, watching their precious club plummet to the 16th position in the Premier League. The Red Devils sacked Erik ten Hag in the middle of the season to appoint Ruben Amorim to change things.

However, Amorim’s tactical style of play proved too much for he senior team to adjust quickly, prolonging their struggling performances. United needed to win the Europa League final, with next season’s Champions League and big financial rewards on the line.

The Red Devils are facing a lot of financial scrutiny due to their past poor spending in the transfer market. Mount is one of their struggling signings, who cost them an initial £55m to lure him away from rivals Chelsea.

United gave Mount the iconic number seven jersey, but the England international has persistently failed to justify that immense trust. The 26-year-old midfielder has made 25 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions this season, scoring only three goals.

Mount has struggled with persistent injuries and fitness issues since joining the Manchester giants, making him undependable for the club. According to Fotmob, Mount managed only 25 touches for United in his 71-minute performance against Tottenham in the final loss.

The 26-year-old had three touches in the opposition box, making only eight accurate passes from 11 attempts during the game. United dominated 73% of the possession during the game, making a total of 433 passes compared to Spurs’ 112 passes.

Yet Mount’s minuscule numbers highlight his inability to influence the game, particularly in the final third for the Red Devils. Mount won five out of seven duels while making one clearance and three recoveries, along with an aerial clearance.

The 26-year-old attempted two tackles and failed both times, accumulating a 6.3 Fotmob rating in another poor display in the United Jersey.
