Erling Haaland, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Christian Eriksen – Scandinavia has produced some truly world class talents over the years. But who are the best young players from the region today?
We’ll be looking at players from the five Scandinavian countries in this list – in case you’re unaware, they are Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Iceland.
Additionally, we’ll only be looking at players aged 20 and under – anyone who does not meet this threshold won’t be considered for inclusion.
A fantastic young left-back with stellar attacking and defensive capabilities, Juho Lahteenmaki is a player wise beyond his years.
He has been a key player for Nordsjælland in the Danish Superliga this season, having made 17 league appearances. During this span of games, he has scored a single goal and has racked up a pair of assists.
Additionally, despite being just 19 years of age, Lahteenmaki is already an established member of Finland’s senior squad – he has four international caps to his name thus far.
It’s often hard to believe that Victor Froholdt is only 20 years old. Despite being so young, he is already a midfield general with impressive veteran instincts.
He has been a regular start for Porto in the Primeira Liga this season. He has started in all but one of their league games in 2025/26 – consequently, the only time he did not start marked their only league defeat of the campaign.
Froholdt is an excellent passer of the ball and is starting to develop an eye for goal – he has scored three times in the Primeira Liga this season, notching up a couple of assists along the way.
Sweden’s national team is struggling at the moment, having failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup – thankfully, they have some excellent young players to hang their hat on.
One of them is Roony Bardghji – he has struggled for meaningful minutes in 2025/26, but when you consider that he plays for a club of Barcelona’s size, it makes sense.
A direct, positive winger who likes to cut inside from the right wing, Bardghji is a nightmare for full-backs thanks to his electric pace and stellar dribbling ability.
Lucas Bergvall’s current season at Tottenham Hotspur has been mired with a litany of issues. For starters, he has suffered three seperate injuries, including an ankle issue that required surgery to fix.
Furthermore, the 2025/26 campaign has been a tumultuous one for Tottenham – their consistently poor performances have led them to 16th in the Premier League table.
Nevertheless, in spite of all of this, Bergvall has still been able to shine. An exciting, technically-astute young midfielder, he has scored one goal and has notched up two assists in England’s top division this season.
This list is in no particular order, but it was a real no-brainer to stick Antonio Nusa at the top of the pile. A wonderful player with blistering pace, the sky is the limit for this young man.
He has only scored two goals in the Bundesliga for RB Leipzig this season, but he is forced to compete against similarly-talented stars such as Yan Diomande and Johan Bakayoko for a shot in the team.
On this end, he is doing very well – despite suffering a couple of injuries this season, he is still a first-team regular for Leipzig. Additionally, he also has 20 Norway caps to his name, alongside seven goals.
