Arsenal have one of the best academies in world football. Having produced superstars such as Tony Adams, Cesc Fabregas and Bukayo Saka, it is a big reason as to why the Gunners are such a dominant force at the moment.
Today, we’ll be looking at what is currently on offer within Arsenal’s U21 and U18s teams and pick out five of the most promising talents within them.
For the purposes of this list, we’ll only be looking at players who haven’t yet made their senior Premier League debut. As such, starlets such as Myles Lewis-Skelly, Max Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri won’t be considered for inclusion. One of them has made his senior debut in the Champions League, though – we’ll get to him very shortly.
Despite being just 16 years of age, Marli Salmon is 6ft 2 and already has a Champions League appearance to his name. A calm, confideny young centre-back, there is almost definitely a future England shirt with his name on it.
His skillset is already looking very complete. Capable of putting in strong tackles and carrying the ball forward, Salmon is any young striker’s worst nightmare. On account of his solid technical fundamentals and quickness off the mark, he can also be an effective force at right-back.
If you could build the ideal modern winger in a laboratory, the end product might look something like Andre Harriman-Annous. While still green, the potential that this young possesses is utterly limitless at this stage.
A physical winger who is difficult to knock off the ball, he also has wonderful ball control and dribbling ability that allows him to glide beyond defenders with ease. He isn’t a selfish player, either – he plays with his head up and is always looking to create goals, as well as score his own.
The only goalkeeper on our list, Tommy Setford may well end up being a possible long-term replacement for Jordan Pickford in the England national team if he continues developing at the same pace he currently is.
With excellent reflexes and a strong ability to read the game, he conceded just ten goals in 12 Premier League 2 appearances last season, keeping six clean sheets along the way.
Ethan Nwaneri isn’t the only top talent that the family has to offer – his younger brother, Emerson Nwaneri, is also a fantastic player in his own right. While he predominantly plays as a left-winger, he is also more than capable of filling in at the number ten role.
Sadly, Nwaneri may not be an Arsenal player for much longer. A report from The Times suggests that he could leave the club in the coming weeks, though the Gunners are doing everything they can to keep him on board.
Originally a Stoke City academy player, Jaden Dixon was snapped up by Arsenal in February for an undisclosed fee – this could prove to be a very canny deal on the Gunners’ behalf.
An adaptable defender, his towering size makes him a natural fit at centre-back, but he can also fill in at left-back and at right-back if needed.
