The star is one of the key players heavily linked with an exit from Tottenham amid relegation fears.

Tottenham Hotspur are battling to secure their Premier League status, and preparations are already being made for two possible scenarios next season. One plan focuses on bolstering the roster to remain competitive in the top flight. The alternative strategy considers the financial and sporting impact of relegation.

If Spurs do avoid the drop, they’ll be able to keep hold of some of their key players. Relegation, though, could force a fire sale that several Premier League and European clubs can take advantage of. There have been a few linked away from N17 heading into the summer, with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven spearheading a possible mass exodus.

The €65m Micky van de Ven joined Tottenham from German club VfL Wolfsburg in the summer of 2023 and has since been one of the very few consistent players for the club. However, the centre-back’s form has been indifferent this term. He is part of a Spurs side who are yet to win a Premier League game in 2026, a run of form that has cost former bosses Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor their jobs.

Micky van de Ven plotting summer departure from Tottenham

According to a report from FourFourTwo, Micky van de Ven is laying the groundwork behind the scenes for a summer exit out of Tottenham following their terrible season. Whichever division they find themselves in next season, the Dutchman is devising a plan to seal a departure.

The 25-year-old, who is the club’s most valuable player, has already privately started cleaning up his off-field affairs in London, which are signs that his future lies away from N17. Van de Ven has been linked with moves to Barcelona, Real Madrid and Liverpool, among others, but remains contracted to Tottenham until 2029.

This strengthens the Lilywhites’ negotiating position significantly. The centre-back is viewed as a central figure in Tottenham’s long-term plans, and their stance remains firm. With the North Londoners’ potential high demands, the report adds that Van de Ven could be forced to leave on loan should the club suffer the unthinkable.

A deal in that framework would allow Spurs to get away from paying the Netherlands international’s big wages, but possibly secure a higher fee for him in the future should they get back to the top flight at the first time of asking. Or else, they could loan Van de Ven out without an option or obligation to buy in the event of getting him, should promotion be immediately achieved.

For now, though, Roberto De Zerbi needs the best version of Van de Ven in the remaining five games to help Tottenham stave off relegation. With Cristian Romero ruled out for the rest of the campaign, De Zerbi and Spurs require the left-footed defender more than ever to marshal the troops and keep clean sheets.
