Kobbie Mainoo has decided to prove himself under Ruben Amorim at Manchester United next season after having a positive talk. The 20-year-old struggled with inconsistencies and irregular gametime throughout the last season, hampering the steep development he showed in past.
The England international earned a regular call-up under former manager Erik ten Hag during the 2023-24 season amid midfield instability. In November 2023, United’s midfield lacked pace and energy as Casemiro started regressing quickly, along with other available midfield options.
At that time, the new signing Mason Mount struggled with persistent injuries, a problem that had haunted him last season. Mainoo used the opportunity to establish himself in the senior team, and his performances earned regular praise from the fanbase.
Mainoo’s steep rise allowed him a spot in the England national team for the Euros 2024 competition under Gareth Southgate. However, the young England international struggled with inconsistencies and muscle injuries throughout last season as United endured an embarrassing campaign.
Meanwhile, Mainoo’s contract saga has been going on since early February of 2024, with no sign of development. The 20-year-old midfielder made 37 appearances in all competitions for United last season, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
According to GiveMeSport, Mainoo has decided to prove himself to Amorim next season and intends to stay at United. United put a £70m price tag on Mainoo earlier this summer amid stalled contract talks and his failure to impress Amorim.
However, the news of the 20-year-old staying at United is positive, as he is already one of the fan favourites. Furthermore, the England international has all the qualities to become one of the best Premier League midfielders of this generation.
Mainoo’s biggest adversary is his fitness concern, or else the 20-year-old fits the profile that Amorim desires in a midfielder. The fanbase would love nothing more than seeing Mainoo play as a first-team regular for many years and build his legacy as one of the success stories from the United academy.
