The Boston Celtics are officially out of the dreaded second apron after trading Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday earlier this week. However, the team plans to continue shedding salary to get more financial flexibility, and Sam Hauser is floated as a potential trade candidate.
According to Boston Celtics insider Chris Mannix, Sam Hauser, whose four-year, $45 million contract extension will kick in next season, could draw significant attention from various suitors in the market.
“The market is robust right now for Sam Hauser from what I heard,” Mannix said. “He’s a 40-plus percent three-point shooter, who’s been on a championship team, who’s on a very manageable contract. There are a lot of teams that could use guys like that.”
Sam Hauser has been a key bench player for the Boston Celtics this campaign, averaging 8.5 points and 3.2 rebounds on 45.1 percent shooting from the field and 41.6 percent from three-point land across 71 regular season games (19 starts).
With the 28th overall pick, the Boston Celtics selected Hugo Gonzalez, who recently played for Real Madrid during the 2024-25 campaign. Gonzalez may be new to Boston fans, but not to team president Brad Stevens since he plans to bring the 19-year-old over to the team next season.
“We’ve been watching Hugo for a long time. He’s obviously been on everybody’s radar for a long time,” Stevens told reporters via CLNS Media. “(We) followed his year with a great Real Madrid organization and team closely, watched him in all the U18 and those types of things.”
“Just a big fan of how he plays,” he continued. “He’s tough. He’s hard-playing. He cuts. He goes after the ball. He competes. He’s got all the intangibles of a winning basketball player. There’s things he can get better at, just like everybody else at that age, but competitiveness is at a high level.”
