Legendary former AC Milan defender Alessando Costacurta feels that Inter Milan did very well at the back against Bologna.

Costacurta spoke about the match on Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. He noted that Bologna did not create any particularly good chances.

Inter kept yet another clean sheet in Serie A at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara yesterday.

The fact that this came against one of the outstanding teams in the league at the moment, playing at a tough away ground, meant that the clean sheet was all the more important.

And Bologna didn’t make it easy for Inter.

The Rossoblu had the majority of the ball, particularly in the second half.

And it was purposeful, high-tempo possession from Thiago Motta’s team. At least until they started to approach Inter’s goal.

But in their own final third, the Nerazzurri were able to keep things watertight.

The defending in the penalty area from Inter was virtually perfect.

The Nerazzurri stuck to their task with great concentration. Even though it was an entirely different back three than the team that had beaten Genoa a few days prior, the Inter backline was a well-drilled unit.

This was exactly the kind of performance Inter needed at the back after taking a first-half lead.

And it will also surely be the kind of approach the Nerazzurri will need as the run-in of the season progresses. Particularly in Europe, they will certainly have moments where they need to dig in their heels.

Bologna took nineteen shots in the match in total. But only three of them were on target.

Former Milan defender Costacurta remarked that “The numbers are emblematic.”

“Even when Inter have to suffer, it’s not like they really suffer.”

Costacurta observed that “Bologna played well. But it’s not like they created a whole lot, did they?”
